Typical Day at Betty Ford Center
Days at Betty Ford center are stocked with a wide range of activities. Patients wake up at 6:30 am and they immediately get to work on their daily list of assignments, such as setting tables, restocking food supplies, cleaning up around the facility, and the likes.
Furthermore, after daily vitals are checked, patients move on to a therapeutic meditation session on the banks of a beautiful, scenic lake. The only gadget allowed on the premises are iPods that patients use to listen to their meditation music. Staff members confiscate all other electronics like cell phones and computers upon entry.
The rehab’s programs use the 12-step model, together with evidence-based treatment modalities, like dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. Upon arrival, patients engage in 30-90 day primary care program of lectures, individual and group therapies, as well as relapse prevention classes, and 12-step meetings. Furthermore, patients also engage in life skills training and alternative therapies, including yoga, fitness, acupuncture, and meditation.
One alum describes the center, saying: “The facility is well-furnished, but definitely old. The buildings are well kept, the grounds meticulously maintained, and the staff friendly and helpful.” However, not everyone shares the same opinion. “The most traumatic horrifying experience of my life. I went there my life hit rock bottom after being an Emmy nominated casting director. They punish and mistreat the addict; they provide a substandard detox: they basically let me writhe in pain and yelled me out of bed to march in the desert at 7 AM.”

While no treatment center is perfect, the Betty Ford Center has a long standing reputation for giving top-notch, ethical treatment. It’s also important to understand that every patient receives an aftercare plan prior to discharge.” – D.L.J
The treatment was very detailed and intense. But the people in the program did not get sober. At least the 5 people I met when I was there. It seemed a bit too comfortable and did not offer enough support when the patient entered the world again. – K.M
The Betty Ford Center is no longer what it once was. The glory days for this facility are long gone. Good for detoxing. Excellent children’s and family program. Good for 30 day treatment. For anything else, try a different facility. – B.W
